The El Dorado County Indian Council, Inc. - Who We Are And What We Do
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our elder, Gordon Boswell. A detailed account of his life and works will follow in the next few days.
The history of Native Americans in what is now El Dorado County is extensive, and goes well back into the prehistory of California. Prehistoric inhabitants of this area of the California foothills were Southern Maidu, or Nisenan, and Miwok. The majority of Native people who live here today are Miwok by affiliation.
The current Native American population of El Dorado County is multi-tribal, and the make-up of The Eldorado County Indian Council, Inc. reflects the multi-tribal nature of the population.
Our members have tribal affiliations throughout North America, and we welcome Native and non-Native Americans, regardless of their affiliations, to join with us in working toward a better future for all Native people who live in El Dorado County.
